1.28 Maple Burl Salad Bowl 13″

This Maple Burl Bowl is 13″ in diameter and is filled with lots of quilting.  Quilted Maple has a different look at various angles that you look at it.  It is finished with a Manufactured Salad Bowl Finish.  The brownish color at each end is called spalting.

This 9″ Maple Burl bowl comes from the Vancouver area.  It is finished with a Manufactured Salad Bowl Finish.  It has some spectacular colors.

The extremely beautiful Natural Edge Maple Burl Bowl was made for the tree surgeon who found the piece of wood.  It is 15 inches in diameter and 1 1/ 4″ thick.

This 13 inch Natural Edge, Monkey Puzzle Salad Bowl has been turned from the end of the log. This shows the growth rings.  The dark streaks are caused by bacteria which invades the tree when it is dying.  This is called spalting.

1.23 Box Elder Bowl

This 8 inch Box Elder Bowl was decorated by pyrography – burning.   It is finished with several coats of Manufactured Salad Bowl Finish. Box Elder is sometimes referred to as Manitoba Maple.  The red is caused by a bacteria which invades the tree when it is dying.  This process is called spalting.

This bowl was left thick to show off the burl spikes.  It is 11 inches across with a 6 inch bowl.  It is finished with a manufactured salad bowl finish.

The rim has been dyed with analine dye to enhance the grain of the burl.  The dye really pops the grain.  It is finished with many coats of a Manufactured Salad Bowl Finish.

This shallow bowl was dyed with a blood red analine dye to bring out the grain in the beautiful maple Burl. Once dyed it is sanded with 400 grit sand paper. This process enhances the grain.

This bowl was purchased by a Photographer who specializes in baby pictures. It was left thick to protect one of the large side protrusions.
